Blueprint DC's Technologies

Blueprint DC strives to utilize the best in open source technologies. Open source provides excellent scalable and high performance applications without the high cost that comes with commercial software.

The following is a list of some of the technologies we use. This list is not exhaustive, as we are always adding new and emerging technologies to suit the needs of our clients. If you have a particular technology question, feel free to contact us.

PHP

PHP represents our core language, as we use it to build the majority of our web applications. This robust, scalable language provides a unique and complete platform for building everything, ranging from websites to full web applications. PHP is known for powering Facebook and Yahoo, as well as a number of other large internet properties.

Blueprint DC is an expert in the development of PHP-based web applications and can solve any PHP problem that you may be experiencing or write any application you may need.

MySQL

A robust, open-source database engine, MySQL provides easy, fast, reliable database services to thousands of applications on the web, including many of the applications built by Blueprint DC. We use MySQL as our data storage solution because of itss ease of use, its tight integration with PHP (our core language), and it's ubiquity on the web as a data storage solution.

MySQL is open source, freely available, and owned by Sun. Sun is in talks with Oracle to be aquired, which will add functionality to MySQL that previously only existed in the paid version of Oracle. MySQL is a world-class database for an inexpensive price - one of the reasons we love it.

PostgreSQL

For those clients needing just a bit of additional power behind their applications, we offer services that utilize the PostgreSQL database. This database is also open source, but is more complex than MySQL. That said, Postgres is a fantastic database offering many features that are less robust in MySQL (such as partitioning and the ability to store tables on different disks).

Postgres can be used to power database-intense websites much more efficiently than MySQL, and we love working on projects that utilize this database engine. There are only a few shops that are qualified to work with Postgres, and we pride ourselves on being one of them.

Apache Web Server

The Apache web server has proven to be a reliable partner of our technology stack, and we continue to use this extensible, highly configurable, performant web server as a core component of our web applications. The ability to add modules and configure Apache in thousands of different ways makes it the best choice for web applications that need various configuration choices; to date, we have yet to see a web server that has the options available in the Apache platform.

We offer services installing, configuring, maintaining and fine tuning Apache and the most popular Apache modules like mod_rewrite and WebDAV.
